About Robin Burrows & Submersible Productions

Robin Burrows, Submersible Productions

This is the website of cameraman, filmmaker, animation artist, photographer, engineer and diver Robin Burrows. A multi talented and creative artist who is inspired by stories, shipwrecks, history, great endeavours and educating others.

An engineer from Worcestershire producing media, DVD and film shows, aerial filming by helicopter and light aircraft, location/subject support and 2D/3D graphics in support of educational television, radio and media. Also providing stock footage of the Isles of Scilly, local wildlife, history and events I combine this with marine exploration and filming underwater for a hobby. I spend a third to half of the year living on the Isles of Scilly and have been visiting for 20 years. This started a passion for the sea, UK and Scilly wildlife and wrecks which drives most of my work.

With a passion for clean creative cinematography together with finding ways to educate people in a simple, yet interesting, fluid display of images I strive to do new things and capture the endeavours of others and the world we live in. This is what drives my passion.

"I describe cinematography as the creative use of pictures and sound to tell a story".

When asked how I make my work differ from everyone else, I usually reply" Every story is different"

I film scenery, wildlife, history, observational documentary ,shoreline, expeditions and aerial filming while specialising in the Isles of Scilly. I film underwater as a hobby but using the latest HD cameras and Gates housings. I have hundreds of tapes and memory cards of broadcast standard footage of the Islands underwater, on the surface and in the air in SD, HDV, XDCAM EX, and 4:2:2 HD in SD, 720P HD and full 1920x1080 HD also in 50, 100 and 200MB/s files. This is available for any application requiring stock footage.

I story board, write scripts, narrate programs and pitch ideas for most of my projects.

Shipwreck history, observational documentaries and local interest stories are my key provision but I have provided PR work for web, animated presentations and DVD, theatrical productions and on location consultancy. My experience of Scilly has been gained over 25 years with my own boats and contact with many sources often spending 3 to 6 months there at a time.

I also undertake 3d modelling graphic design and animatics to illustrate my research and use cinema 4D together with occasional use of other programs. I have modelled animated and constructed cannons, wreck plans, seabed maps, castles, pistols and ships and find the creative challenge a breath of fresh air. Working with expert visual effects artist Austin Johnson has helped enormously and also allowed me to help him achieve recognition of his stunning work and skill.

As an engineer I repair and manufacture my equipment to save money and meet every requirement as best as possible for all environments. From camera mounts to camera systems, control and instrumentation to environmental protection.

I have built underwater cameras to sonars and shoulder mounts together with control systems and electronic circuits.
